Betis continue their slide down the table, and they have now gone five games without a win after drawing 0-0 at local rivals Málaga. Both managers made several changes to their sides, Víctor Fernández in view of the injuries which keep piling up (Denilson joined the list with a knee injury after this game) and Joaquín Peiró to give a rest to some of his players after their exhausting UEFA cup tie at Boavista on Thursday which they lost on the penalty shoot out.

Both keepers were on top form, with Prats turning a spectacular long shot from Iznata against the post early on and Arnau, making his first league appearance at the club in place of the suspended Contreras, stopping an Assunçao free kick later in the first half. Málaga thought themselves unlucky not to win though when Darío Silva had a goal disallowed after the break, referee Pino Zamorano ruling that Canabal had fouled Filipescu in the build up to the goal. Television pictures later suggested that there had been virtually no contact between the two.
