Racing Santander move away from the bottom spots after a narrow 1-0 victory over Recreativo gave them their seventh point in the last three games. The visitors had gone seven games without defeat though, and a win would have taken them out of the relegation spots and level on points with Piterman's side. Raúl Molina came close to putting the Andalucians ahead, heading over the bar early on and then brushing the post with a shot. Racing didn't reply until five minutes before the break, when Benayoun set up Javi Guerrero, whose shot was blocked by the defence.

Before the half time whistle though both sides were down to ten men, Iker Begoña getting a red card from referee Pino Zamorano after a foul on Bodipo which the striker appeared to over-react to, and then Bodipo himself getting sent off after Pernía reciprocated in an off the ball incident. The game was decided in the end though by a freak own goal early in the second half when Pernía got in the way of Espinola's attempted clearance following a corner. Javi Guerrero could have put the Cantabrians further ahead later on, but Luque was once again in good form and kept him out.
