Sevilla lost ground on the teams above them after they were pegged back to a 3-3 draw by bottom club Rayo Vallecano, and their challenge for the UEFA spots is now in peril. The home side were on top during most of the first half, but they were fortunate in the end to score, Casquero's shot from outside of the area hitting a post and bouncing in off Etxeberría just before half time.

Caparrós had left Reyes on the bench as he had not fully recovered from his injury, but he brought him on for the second half in place of Antoñito. It proved to be a good move, as within three minutes he had extended the lead after Toedtli set him up. But Rayo didn't give up, and after Quevedo and Peragón had gone close, Luis Cembranos got one back from the penalty spot after Javi Navarro fouled Peragón.

Reyes was there again though ten minutes from the end to win himself a penalty and re-established the two goal cushion. It seemed to be all over, but Michel beat Notario with a free kick from outside of the area and two minutes later set up Peragón for the equaliser. The crowd couldn't believe it, and whistled their players off at the end. The point might not be enough to save Rayo, but at least they are not going to go without a fight.
