Rayo Vallecano are virtually down after they were held to a 0-0 draw by relegation rivals Osasuna. Iriondo's side really needed to win to have any chance of catching their rivals, but they came up against a brick wall as the Basques gave up creative football to return to their roots. Only a header from Peragón before the break troubled a well ordered defence, and Etxeberría had to save from Morales to keep the scores level at half time. Iriondo threw on Bolo and them Cembranos in the second half, but Sanzol was good enough to keep out efforts from Peragón and Bolo, and when he was beaten by Corino's header the defence was there to clear. Referee Daudén Ibáñez upset the local fans with some dubious decisions, ending up with a red card for Iriney near the end, and had to have a policeescort off the pitch. Osasuna ended the weekend four points above the drop zone, and are a step nearer to safety.
