Mallorca's home form once again let them down, and after wins in the Bernabeu and the Nou Camp they were beaten in their own San Moix stadium by a Sevilla side who are now level with their opponents on points. The home side started well, dominating the wet, slippery conditions better than the visitors, and Eto'o put them in front after combining with Pandiani, who was returning to the side after a two week lay off for injury.

But after that the visitors found their feet, and Marcos Vales and Víctor Salas both tested Leo Franco. Shortly before half time Antoñito met Gallardo's cross to level the scores, and before the sides left the field Mallorca were down to ten men after Lozano got himself sent off for a second bookable offence.

Missing the injured Ibagaza the islanders found themselves in trouble, and Reyes put the Andalucians in front with a quickly taken free kick. Notario tipped an effort from Cortés over the bar and Eto'o went close with a header following a corner as the home side did their best, but Reyes found Antoñito for him to score his second of the night and the game was over. Both sides still have a chance of the last UEFA spot, although they now find themselves four points off Athletic Bilbao.
