Osasuna beat an unmotivated Valladolid to ensure their continuity in the first division and send Alavés, Recreativo and Rayo down to the second division in one swoop. The Pamplona based side started the weekend four points above the relegation zone, and were realistically the only other club who could go down other than the bottom three. But they came out with the intention of settling matters before the two week lay-off, and within a minute Morales had already hit the bar. Then with ten minutes on the clock Palacios took time off from his Colsa marking duties to get on the end of a good run by Alfredo and open the scoring.

For a brief while the home side came back and their Antonio López (there was one on each side) tried his luck from a long way out. But a minute before the half time interval the usually reliable Bizzarri dropped a weak cross at Valdo's feet, leaving the new under 21 international with the easiest of tasks of running the ball into the net. Moré brought on the more attacking Chema at the break, but Aguirre's well ordered defence held on to take the three points they most needed.
