Betis moved above their neighbours Sevilla after beating Racing Santander 4-2, although with Bilbao winning, any option of making it back to Europe this season has now gone out of the window. The Andalucian side took the lead in the twelfth minute through their top scorer Fernando, the ex Real Madrid midfielder converting a penalty after Moratón tripped Dani in the area. Joaquín headed a second goal on the stroke of half time, and Dani made it three on the hour mark after Mingo set him up to beat young keeper Borja.

With nothing at stake, Racing had rested several of their key players. Munitis was in the starting line up though, and he pulled a goal back with a quarter of an hour to go with a shot which caught Prats off guard. Marcos Assunçao scored a fourth for the locals, but Pablo Casar headed another for the visitors near the end, his third in two games, for the final scoreline. The fans celebrated, but even more so when news came through that their arch-rivals Sevilla had lost.
