A late penalty helped Málaga beat local rivals Sevilla 3-2 to end their hopes of European football next season. It was an end to end game, with the scoreline changing three times before Darío Silva fell in the penalty area under Alfaro's challenge and struck the winner himself from the spot. The Uruguayan striker had said he was not happy and wanted to leave the club this summer, but he still produced one of his best games of the season, opening the scoring in the seventeenth minute and setting up substitute Canabal for an equaliser in the second half after their opponents had turned the game around.

The visitors had got back into the match around the half hour mark when local keeper Contreras was sent off for bringing down Gallardo in the area, Reyes tucking away the resulting penalty kick. And then Javi Navarro had headed them into the lead in the second half following a corner. But despite playing with a man less, Peiró's side rallied round to end the season in the Rosaleda stadium with a win.
