Osasuna's first ever top spot was short lived as they fell to a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Valencia. The Pamplona based side had led the pack after their victory at Albacete on Saturday, but a headed goal by Baraja from a second half corner was enough to give Rafa Benítez's side the three points.

The visitors were missing Ayala and Aimar, both on international duty, but they started off strongly in the opening minutes. Sanzol saved well from Jorge López and Oliveira in the first half, and four minutes after the restart Baraja met Vicente's corner to head the ball goalwards. The keeper did get a hand to it and pushed it away, but Marchena followed up and ran it back into the net. However the referee ruled that Baraja's header had crossed the line beforehand, and his name went on the scoresheet rather than the defenders.

Aguirre went for broke after that though, bringing on two new forwards Iván Rosado and Morales. Aloisi, Valdo and Morales all tried their luck, but even without Ayala the visitors have one of the best defences in the league, and just to make sure Benítez brought on an extra central defender Navarro for the last quarter of an hour. Valencia had got their first win of the season, and Osasuna were brought back to Earth after just three days on the Moon.
