A poor game at Valladolid, where the home side beat Málaga thanks to a penalty late in the first half. Both teams had lost several key players in the summer and it showed, with nobody capable of taking the game by the scruff of the neck and shaking it up.

The first half was characterised by a string of fouls, particularly from the visitors, and the only chances fell to Romero for the visitors and Sousa for the locals, but both shot over the bar. Just before the break though Sousa ran on to a long ball out of defence from Julio César, and Fernando Sanz pulled him down. Losantos Omar had no hesitation awarding the penalty which Jesús converted, although he did let the defender off a red card.

There was little change in the second half, with Julio César heading over and Ricchetti and Jesús shooting wide for the hosts and Luque putting a free kick wide near the end for the Andalucians. The win leaves Valladolid on four points; Málaga only have one and have yet to score. Hopefully Salva will be available for the next match. They need him.
