Real Murcia and Athletic Bilbao drew 2-2 in a game in which the lead changed hands twice. Michel put the home side in front early in the first half, the ex Rayo Vallecano midfielder heading home a cross from Juanma. But the Basques took control from there on, with Iraola frustrated by the defence twice before Urziaz took advantage of a mistake by Loeschbor to set up Etxeberría for the equaliser. Tiko put the visitors ahead on the hour mark after his colleagues had had numerous chances to score, but referee Ramírez Domínguez awarded a dubious penalty to the hosts a few minutes later which Luis García converted to make it all square again. Although Bilbao had more opportunities later on, Murcia could have won it when Esnaider hit the post and Luis García got the ball into the net on the follow up, only to have his effort ruled out by the referee for a supposed foul. After the match the Karanka brothers David and Aitor (who were on opposite sides) met again in the medical centre as both were selected at random for drug tests.
