Betis moved up to fifth place with a 3-2 win over Albacete. It was not an easy victory though, and the visitors struck first when Mikel got on the end of Oscar Montiel's long ball to steer a header unmarked past Contreras with less than a quarter of an hour gone. The Andalucians came out looking for the equaliser, but Roa was there to save twice from Fernando and then from Denilson. But in the three minutes leading up to half time, Tote justified his place in the starting line up with two actions which turned the scoreline around, first of all collecting Denilson's header near to goal to level the scores and then falling under Peña's challenge to win a penalty which Fernando converted. The ex Real Madrid striker admitted after the game that he had tripped himself up, but with the defender falling onto to him, referee Muñiz Fernández was convinced it was a foul.

Five minutes in to the second half it appeared to be all over, Joaquín dribbling out of defence and hitting a precision pass into the path of Capi for him to roll a shot into the net past the advancing Roa. But Parri reduced the gap to one goal with a magnificently struck free kick which left Contreras clutching at air, and for the last quarter of the game Betis were on the back foot. Substitute Aranda thought he had won a penalty which could have saved a point when Lembo brought him down in the area, but Muñiz waved away his appeal. But Joaquín had the last word, and could have put the fans' minds at rest a few minutes earlier had he taken a late chance.
