Valencia missed out on the chance to make it a three way tie at the top when they drew 2-2 at Real Murcia in the last game of the weekend. Although the locals started well, Rafa Benítez's side went in front in the twelfth minute when Mista picked up a loose ball in the area to beat Juanmi. The home side kept up their push however, and Acciari headed just wide from Luis García's corner with the goal at his mercy. And three minutes later Richi equalised in a set piece free kick, Loeschbor heading Michel's floated centre across for the ex Atlético Madrid youngster to score.

The goal restored the confidence of Joaquín Peiró's side, and two minutes after the restart they were level when Michel finished off after good work from Fredi. But their joy only lasted a few minutes before Mista made it eight league goals for the season, heading home Carboni's cross. Benítez brought on Aimar (who had been rested after playing for Argentina midweek), but it was the home side who came closest to scoring after that, with Fredi and Esnaider causing problems for the defence. The Chés held on though to take another valuable point in their fight for the title, and leave their opponents further down in the relegation zone.
