Real Murcia came from behind twice against Real Sociedad to save a valuable point in a 2-2 draw. Both sides came into the game needing a win, the locals having gone seven games without one and the visitors five. But neither produced anything of interest up until the half hour mark, when Gabilondo bent a well placed free kick over the defensive wall from the right of the area for the opening goal.

The second half was a different story though, and within two minutes of the kick off Luis García had equalised with a carbon copy of Gabilondo's goal, only from the other side of the area. The joy of the locals only lasted a minute though before De Paula got on the end of López Rekarte's cross to head the San Sebastian based side back in front.

De Paula missed a couple of chances to extend the lead, and much to the crowd's displeasure, Joaquín Peiró decided to take off Fredi and Roteta and bring on Julio Alvarez and David Karanka. Although unpopular it was an inspired move, and within a minute the two combined for Alvarez to find Karanka's head with a cross from the right for him to score. Alvarez and Luis García both could have given the home side the victory, but Westerveld and his defence held firm, and both had to settle for another draw that only drags them further down the table.
