Mallorca made it four wins in a row since Luis Aragonés returned to take charge of the side, and the Balearic Islanders move up level with their opponents Villarreal, both now only one point outside of the UEFA cup spots.

The early opportunities fell to the home side, Roger almost catching Leo Franco off his line with a shot from inside his own half and Sonny Anderson having a goal disallowed for offside after the keeper pushed out another long effort from Roger. But ten minutes in to the second half Eto'o ran on to Colsa's through ball to beat Reina from an impossible angle and open the scoring, his eleventh goal of the season in all competitions.

Campano made it two only five minutes later after taking a return pass from Bruggink, the fourth in a best ever week for the full back turned midfielder, and the visitors were high and dry. Aragonés had worked his magic once again, and Villarreal had been beaten in the Madrigal stadium for the first time this season.
