Deportivo missed out on the chance to close the gap on Real Madrid when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Racing Santander. Although the Galicians got off to the better start, the visitors looked dangerous on the counterattack, and almost caught their opponents out in the first half when Ayoze and then Javi Guerrero both hit the post with Molina beaten.

But Diego Tristán and Sergio both went close at the other end, and Luque put the Galicians in front with a shot in off the bar after a short free kick just before the break, his third goal in consecutive games.

The game deteriorated after the break, with neither side really taking the initiative. Lucas Alcaraz brought on Anderson Silva with a quarter of an hour to go though, and within a couple of minutes the Brazilian midfielder found Javi Guerrero for him to run through and chip Molina for a well deserved equaliser.

It was a big disappointment for the locals, but they still equal their best ever first half of the season, their 37 points equal to their tally in 2000, when they won the league, and 2001, when they finished second.
