There were goals galore at Celta, where the locals lost 2-5 to a Real Sociedad side who have now won four games in a row. Gustavo López headed the Galicians in front with less than a minute on the clock after López Rekarte missed a clearance, and Milosevic could have made it two when his header was saved by Alberto. But the visitors turned things around by the break, Xabi Alonso setting up Kovacevic for his first goal in three months and Milosevic putting through his own net following a deflected Karpin corner near half time.

Luccin made it all square from the penalty spot soon after the restart after referee Tristante Oliva ruled that Vagner had been fouled by Schürrer, but Berizzo was sent off for a second bookable offence minutes later and Xabi Alonso headed the visitors back in front soon afterwards after Cavallero could only parry a shot from Kovacevic. Nihat added two more later in the half to finish things off, the first after taking a return pass from Gabilondo and the second running through a disheartened defence to chip Cavallero. The local fans called for the head of Miguel Angel Lotina at the end, and they got their wish the following day when the manager was fired.
