Goals:
1-0. 63. Karpin (penalty). After Juanma ruled to have pushed Schürrer in area.

Real Sociedad made it five wins in a row after they beat Racing Santander 1-0. It was not an easy victory though, and the only goal came from a controversial Karpin penalty in the second half after the referee ruled that Juanma had pushed Schürrer in the area. Juanma was sent off after picking up a second yellow card for protesting the penalty decision, and after that the visitors were unable to fight back.

The visitors have one of the best away records in the league this season, and Jonathan, Javi Guerrero and Matabuena all caused problems for Westerveld in the first half. At the other end both Kovacevic and Nihat were not having the best of days, although it took a brilliant save by Ricardo from Schürrer's header to keep the scores level at half time.

The three points stayed in Anoeta though, and Real moved above their opponents to ninth place, only three points now behind their neighbours and rivals Athletic.
