Espanyol are starting to believe they can save themselves as well after they beat Valladolid 2-0, their second victory in a row and their fourth in six games. The Catalans were lucky not to fall behind in the first half, with referee Medina Cantalejo failing to spot a hand ball in the area by Lopo and Fernando Sales, Oscar González and Sousa all bringing good saves out of Lemmens. The locals also got the ball in the net just before the break, but as Oscar's shot deflected in off Losada who was standing in an offside position, the goal was disallowed.

The Catalans' only response had been a shot from Maxi which Bizzarri saved comfortably, and Luis Fernández threw on Tamudo early in the second half to join Raducanu. Within three minutes he had got his name on the scoresheet after a mix up between Bizzarri and Julio César left the ball at his feet, and Fredson headed his first ever goal for the club from De la Peña's corner two minutes later to take them to within three points of safety.
