A last minute David Villa penalty gave Zaragoza a 2-1 win and ended Real Sociedad's run of five wins in succession. Víctor Muñoz's side came into the game full of confidence after their first leg cup semi-final draw at Alavés, and they took the lead in the fifth minute when Savio ran through half the defence to set up Villa for him to beat Westerveld. And Galletti could have increased the lead if he had not waited too long before shooting when free in front of the Dutch keeper.

But with half an hour on the clock Real woke up, and Lainez had to be at his best to save a couple of efforts from the lively Nihat. The keeper could probably have done better though a few minutes later when Xabi Alonso struck a long shot from outside of the area which bent away from him and in to the corner of the net.

The visitors continued their domination into the second half, with Kovacevic having a goal disallowed and Lainez saving well from a Nihat free kick. But Villa burst into the penalty area in injury time, and Westerveld had no option but to bring him down. The young striker converted the kick himself to give his side a much needed three points which takes them above Albacete and out of the relegation spots.
