Sevilla bounced back from their midweek cup defeat at Real Madrid and moved away from the danger zone after a comfortable 3-0 win over a poor Mallorca. Unlike last week, Joaquín Caparrós decided not to reserve any of his players for the midweek cup second leg, and with Baptista and Darío Silva in the side they overpowered their visitors with three goals in the second half. It was not that clear early on though, and the first chance fell to Colsa, who shot just wide. Martí, Darío Silva and Antoñito all put visiting keeper Leo Franco to the test, but Esteban was called upon to save from Finidi before the interval.

The locals raced away with the game though in the second half, Baptista getting the first from Antonio López's cross four minutes after the restart, and Gallardo making it two after Darío Silva laid the ball on a plate for him. Darío Silva and Baptista came very close to adding to the lead, and only an effort from Nené gave the home fans any concern. But the best of the lot was left for the end, Martí leaving three defenders trailing before striking a third goal past Leo Franco. It was Sevilla's first win after three defeats in a row, and they move a point above their opponents into thirteenth spot.
