Espanyol drew 1-1 against cup winners Zaragoza to keep their hopes of salvation alive, although they remain five points away from seventeenth placed Mallorca with only nine games left to the end of the season. The Catalans were hoping to take advantage of the fatigue of their opponents after Wednesday night's marathon match, but Savio went close a couple of times early on and they found themselves behind when David Villa headed over Lemmens with twenty minutes on the clock.

However Fredson struck an impressive equaliser on the half hour mark with a long free kick, and although their most effective forward Tamudo limped off injured two minutes before half time, his replacement Raducanu hit the bar only a minute after making his appearance. Hadji went close a couple of times after the break and Lainez had to be at his best to push out a dangerous free kick from De la Peña. But in the end both sides settled for a point which left them with work to do.
