Bottom side Real Murcia recorded only their third win of the season, beating Mallorca 2-0 to leave the Balearic islanders only two points outside of the relegation zone. Luis Aragonés's side were looking tired after their Thursday night elimination from the UEFA cup at the hands of Newcastle, and Luis García and Juanma could both have put the locals ahead if they had been able to find the target. A few minutes later though Acciari did get the goal they were looking for, beating Leo Franco with a header from Michel's corner.

The visitors finally woke up, and Juami pulled off a couple of good saves from Eto'o either side of half time. But Michel put John Toshack's side further ahead six minutes into the restart, his direct free kick catching Leo Franco off guard waiting for a cross. Mallorca piled on the pressure after that, with three forwards on the park. But Eto'o, Bruggink and Delibasic all wasted chances, and their side are now approaching the danger zone having only won once in their last nine league games.
