Athletic Bilbao moved back into the top six, ahead of Atlético Madrid on goal difference, after a last minute 1-2 win over Racing Santander. Both keepers were in action early on, Ricardo stopping an effort from Urzaiz and Lafuente (standing in for the injured Aranzubia) saving from Javi Guerrero. But the home side were on top for most of the first half, Morán hitting the bar and Pablo Casar and Regueiro both putting efforts wide.

It was the Basque side who struck first though, Lafuente's long clearance finding Tiko for him to set up Iraola five minutes before the break. After that the Cantabrians started to get bogged down, and Alcaraz made changes on the hour mark, bringing on Benayoun and Jonathan. A quarter of an hour later they were level, Javi Guerrero getting on the end of Regueiro's cross to shoot past Lafuente.

The game appeared to be heading for a draw, but in the third minute of injury time Ezquerro opened up the defence with a neat pass and Yeste was there to bury the ball in the back of the net.
