Fifth placed Athletic Bilbao moved a step closer to a place in Europe after a 4-0 win over Zaragoza. Exteberría gave the Basque side the lead on the half hour mark with a spectacular overhead kick after Iraola laid the ball across, but David Villa could have levelled the scores if his strike had not been ruled for offside. And Athletic's Del Horno was lucky to stay on the park after breaking Cani's nose with a flying elbow just before the interval.

Del Horno it was though who got his side's second goal, Etxeberría stepping over a cross from substitute Yeste to leave the full back free to fire in a shot off the crossbar twelve minutes after the restart. A minute later Zaragoza's Milito was sent off for elbowing Tiko, and five minutes after that the visitors were left with nine men when their other central defender Alvaro fouled Etxeberría. Yeste took advantage to add two more goals later on, the first after a pass from Tiko and the second from an Urzaiz cross.
