Mallorca recorded a much needed win at Valladolid to move back out of the relegation spots just 24 hours after Espanyol's victory took them down into the bottom three. Delibasic started things off with a quarter of an hour gone when he latched on to Eto'o's through ball to curl a shot past Bizzarri, and the Serbian striker could have made it two had the keeper not blocked his header.

The locals could have levelled the scores when Losada, Marcos and Caminero all failed to beat Leo Franco before the break, but Chema got the goal they wanted with a spectacular volley from left of the area after the restart. The visitors restored the lead though when Eto'o sent Correa away down the left wing, the Uruguayan forward rolling the ball into the net from a wide angle with the keeper out of his goal expecting a cross.

Losada had another chance to equalise but Leo Franco stood firm, and soon afterwards Correa wrapped things up with a long free kick. The defeat took Valladolid down to within a place of the bottom three, only above Espanyol thanks to a better goal difference, and the following day the board of directors decided to fire manager Fernando Vázquez and replace him with caretaker coach Antonio Sánchez until the end of the season.
