Atlético Madrid got their European campaign back on track at the expense of Celta after beating the Galicians 3-2. Gregorio Manzano's side were two goals up after only five minutes, Nano volleying home Paunovic's cross with seconds on the clock and Fernando Torres getting the second after Nano's free kick was blocked and Aguilera poked the ball across to him.

Milosevic headed one back from Angel's free kick on the half hour mark, but García Calvo restored the two goal advantage before half time, again after the defence failed to clear a Nano free kick. Celta were unlucky not to score again though before the break, Méndez having a goal disallowed for a borderline offside and Lequi almost scoring in his own net had Juanma not been attentive.

The visitors came out strongly again after the break, Oubiña rattling the crossbar with a lofted shot from all of forty metres. And the Galicians hit the woodwork twice more in the next quarter of an hour, Juanma tipping a Berizzo header on to the crossbar and Angel firing a shot from close up which bounced down off the bar, referee Daudén Ibáñez turning down claims that it had crossed the goal line before being cleared.

Celta finally did get a second goal, Edu finishing off after Milosevic headed the ball in following another Angel free kick. And Edu and Milosevic both could have equalised in a nail-biting final few minutes. But after Berizzo was sent off for a second bookable offence their challenge ended, and they sink further into the relegation zone as a result.
