Málaga took advantage of the poor results by the teams above them to move to within two points of sixth place thanks to a 1-0 win over already relegated Real Murcia. It was not an easy victory though, and John Toshack's side wasted three or four chances to go ahead in the first half, Luis García shooting wide with the goal at his mercy, Gancedo being frustrated twice by Arnau and Juanma tripping up when free in front of goal.

The Andalucians improved after the break after Juande Ramos brought on Canabal, and Gancedo had to clear from the striker in front of goal. And a few minutes later Miguel Angel got on the end of Edgar's corner to beat Sánchez Broto and give his side three points that they probably didn't deserve.
