Team changes: Villarreal: Xisco Nadal for Sonny Anderson / Real Sociedad: Luiz Alberto, Mikel Alonso for Brechet, Alkiza.

Goals: None.

A goal-less draw between Villarreal and Real Sociedad, a match in which neither side were able to convert their chances on a bad pitch. On the whole the locals dominated, with Cazorla and Diego Forlán both going close in the first half. Kovacevic could have put the visitors ahead on the half hour mark though when he failed to hit the target with only the keeper to beat.

Villarreal were missing the injured Sonny Anderson, José Marí and Guayre, and Forlán was left alone up front once Pellegrini took off his young strike partner Xisco. Even so the ex Manchester United forward should have won it when he fired a shot into the stands when alone in front of Riesgo near the end. Hopefully he will have got his shooting boots on for their UEFA cup tie next Thursday.
