Newly promoted Levante celebrated their first top flight game in their 35 year old Ciudad de Valencia stadium by coming from behind to beat Racing Santander 3-1. The Valencia based side started nervously though, and after visiting striker Aganzo had an early shot blocked, his second effort beat Mora to put his team in front.

Bernd Schuster brought on one of his new signings Manchev just before the break though, and the Bulgarian striker ran on to Sergio García's pass to level the scores two minutes after the restart. After that Ettien did the rest, producing a startling run which ended with a block by Aouate, leaving the ball at the feet of Nacho Pérez for him to tap in, and then getting the third himself near the final whistle.
