1-3. 80. Milosevic. Lob from outside area which caught Molina off his line.

A surprise result at the Riazor stadium, where Deportivo La Coruña got off to their worst start in over ten years after losing 1-3 to Osasuna. Pandiani gave the Galicians an early lead and should have made it two just before the break, but Aloisi equalised from the penalty spot ten minutes after the restart after the Australian striker was pulled over by Romero. To make matters worse Mauro Silva, who had replaced the injured Duscher early in the first half, limped off himself soon after the goal, leaving Irureta without two of his key players for next week's Champions' League tie.

Depor's luck seemed to have turned again though when the Navarrans were left with ten men after Izquierdo picked up a second booking. But a few minutes later Milosevic put the visitors ahead after good work by Delporte, and the Serbian striker wrapped things up with a second goal after catching Molina off his line with a delightful chip. Osasuna had won at the Riazor stadium for the first time ever in the top flight, leaving Irureta to wonder whether things would have been different had his bosses allowed him to sign the reinforcements he wanted in the close season.
