A last minute goal by Juanma against Villarreal earned Racing Santander their first point of the season. Lucas Alcaraz made six changes, including his entire back four, after a disappointing start to the new campaign, but his new look side could still have been behind at the break had Forlán not wasted a couple of chances.

Aganzo had a chance to put the home side in front when he headed wide with the goal at his mercy, but Forlán had another opportunity a few minutes later when he drilled a shot straight at the keeper from left of goal.

Villarreal finally took the lead when Riquelme set up Anderson for him to shoot under Aouate, but with the game already in injury time, Juanma got on the end of Libero Parri's free kick from wide on the left to steer a header past Reina.
