Málaga got their first goals of the new campaign and their first away win in six months after beating Mallorca 1-2. The match heralded the return of Gregorio Manzano to the San Moix stadium, and his side took the lead midway through the first half when Edgar controlled a long ball out of defence to beat Moyà.

Arango came close to equalising with a shot just past the post before the break, but Amoroso should have given the visitors the lead after the restart, Moyà getting a hand to his shot from right of goal and then the crossbar getting in the way of his spot kick after the referee awarded a dubious penalty when the ball struck Fernando Niño on the arm from close range.

Mallorca equalised just seconds after Farinós hit the bar, Delibasic sliding the ball past Calatayud after it was played back in, but an otherwise inactive Wanchope got the winner ten minutes from the end when he rose to head a long cross down past the keeper.
