Goals:
0-1. 42. Regueiro. Picked up long ball and ran on from left of goal to beat Riesgo.

A goal just before half time from Regueiro was enough to give Racing Santander their first win of the season and send Real Sociedad down into the bottom three. The Uruguayan winger latched on to a long ball out of defence and ran on past Brechet to shoot low across Riesgo for the only goal of the match. Real manager José María Amorrortu had surprisingly left Arteta and Karpin out of his starting line up after the side only picked up two points from their first three games, but things didn't improve, and Benayoun and Arizmendi could both have put the visitors in front early on if they had found the target. And only efforts from Brechet and Uranga troubled Aouate in the visiting goal in the first 45 minutes.

Racing were left with ten men only two minutes after Regueiro's goal when Pierini was shown a red card for a foul on Kovacevic, but even so the Basque side couldn't score. Aouate and his defence kept out everything that their opponents could throw at them after the break, with the keeper in particular making a spectacular save from Nihat and Benayoun tracking back to clear another effort of the line when he was caught out of his area. And Parri could have even increased the Cantabrians lead as they looked to score on the counter-attack.
