Valencia moved a point clear at the top of the table after drawing 1-1 at Betis. Ranieri's side took the initiative in the opening minutes, Prats saving well from Fiore's shot with the game only seconds old. And Di Vaio gave them the lead in the ninth minute catching the local defence napping following a throw-in by Carboni.

Betis recovered after that though, and Edu should have scored when Joaquín put him through, his powerful shot flying just wide of the post with Cañizares beaten. But the Ex Celta forward did get the equaliser a few minutes later, getting on the end of a curling cross from ex Valencia striker Oliveira to steer the ball in to the net.

The Andalusians could have taken the lead though in the first minutes after the restart, Juanito beating the offside trap to fire in a shot which Cañizares beat away. But Di Vaio had the winner in his grasp later in the half when he broke free on a rapid counter-attack, Prats finally closing him down as he hesitated too long before shooting.
