Albacete got their first win of the season against Espanyol, taking them off the bottom of the table and out of the relegation spots. The visitors came in to the game in third position in the table, and started off well with Maxi and Lopo both going close. Kameni was in action at the other end tipping an effort from Alvaro over the bar, and watching a free kick from Pacheco crash against the woodwork, but Tamudo could have given the Catalans the lead had referee Turienzo Alvarez not disallowed his goal for controlling the ball with his hand.

The first chance after the restart fell to Oscar Serrano, Valbuena beating away his shot from close range. But it was the home side who took the lead, Redondo latching on to a through ball from Momo and firing a shot under the legs of Kameni. Albacete were left with ten men for the last quarter of an hour or so when substitute David Sánchez was sent off for a crippling tackle on Lopo, but the local defence held on, Montiel clearing one effort from Corominas off the line and Valbuena touching another shot from Maxi onto the post.
