Mallorca moved up a couple of places away from last spot after drawing 1-1 with Villarreal, but they remain in the relegation spots level with four other clubs on five points. It was a difficult match for local manager Benito Floro, who was booed for most of the game by the home fans, and he could well be out of a job by next weekend. His side did take the lead though when Luis García struck a free kick into the top corner of the net, and ex Real Madrid forward could have got a second only ywo minutes later when he shot over the bar after taking a return pass from Delibasic.

But the visitors levelled the scores immediately afterwards, Riquelme winning the ball in midfield and setting up Forlán for him to slot a shot wide of Moya. Jorge López missed the easiest of chances to put the Balearic Islanders ahead in the second half, but Villarreal could have had a penalty when Forlán was felled in the area. But in the end a point each, and the players left the field to a mass of white handkerchiefs, one of which was even being waved by the lady mayor of Parma, a keen fan of the local side.
