Zaragoza missed out on an opportunity to move up into the Champions' League spots when they were beaten 1-0 by a Racing Santander side who had not won at home in eight months prior to this match. Víctor Muñoz made rested several key players after Thursday night's UEFA cup tie and paid the price, Regueiro giving the Cantabrians the lead early on after good work by Pedro López.

Toledo and Movilla both put efforts wide for the visitors, but otherwise they made little inroads into the local defence, and Víctor brought on David Villa at the break. The young striker brought a good save out of Aouate soon after the restart, but otherwise it was the home side who had all the chances, Aganzo having a goal disallowed for offside and Javi Guerrero lobbing the keeper near the end only to see the ball roll wide of the post. Racing had done enough to win though, and they move out of the bottom three as a result.
