Villarreal boosted their moral with a 4-0 win over struggling Numancia, who stay firmly anchored to the foot of the table as a result. Riquelme opened the scoring in the twentieth minue after Javi Venta set him up, and could have scored two more before the break, a long shot just missing the post and a free kick causing problems for Nuñez.

The Argentine midfielder set up a second goal for Héctor Font after the restart though, and the youngster scored again soon afterwards with a spectacular overhead kick after he had appeared to have lost control of José Marí's centre. Pineda had missed a chance to pull one back in between when he dallied too long and ended up shooting wide, but Forlán made it four five minutes from the end after Graff tried to cut out a long pass down the wing and only succeeded in laying the ball into the striker's path.
