Levante moved up to fifth place, level on points with Madrid and Zaragoza and (more importantly for them) ahead of city rivals Valencia for the first time in 40 years, after a 0-1 win at Osasuna. The Pamplona based side were unbeaten in their Sadar stadium this season, but Rivera gave a first warning with an effort which Sanzol saved, and midway through the first half Sergio García got away from Cruchaga on the left to fire in a long shot which squeezed in past the lunging keeper. And it could have been two by the break had Sanzol not got to a header from his own defender Josetxo and then watched Ettien send the rebound over the bar.

Osasuna's only effort at goal in the first half had been a Valdo free kick which a defender deflected for a corner, and Aguirre was eventually forced to resort to Milosevic, who was still not fully fit after an injury. The Serbian striker did go close with a long shot, and Ian Harte had to clear another effort away from goal with the keeper beaten, but otherwise Mora was not really troubled and Bernd Schuster's side soldiered on into the European spots.
