Valencia's season is going from bad to worse, their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Getafe taking their run without a win to nine matches. Michel returned to the local starting line up after a long injury, and got the only goal early in the first half when his shot found a way through a crowded goalmouth following a short free kick. Up to that point the home side had been in control, Carboni having to clear one effort from Riki off the line with Cañizares beaten, and things didn't improve after the goal, the only danger for Sánchez Broto in the first half coming from his own defender Belenguer, who poked the ball against his own crossbar trying to clear.

Valencia did get forward more after the break, Corradi looking for a penalty but only succeeding in winning a yellow card for diving, and Di Vaio getting the ball in the net but having the strike disallowed for controlling the ball with his arm. And close to the end a magnificent save from Sánchez Broto at point blank range kept out Corradi's header. But this was not the Valencia of old, and if things don't improve, Ranieri could soon be on his way.
