Sevilla were beaten 4-1 by Osasuna in a match which, although bad tempered, was at least a bit more civilized than the last time the two teams met at the end of last season, which ended in a riot and several players sent off. The two managements tried to make their peace before kick off, but the game was broken up by over 50 free kicks and a series of heavy tackles which resulted in Javi Navarro getting sent off for catching Josetxo with a flying elbow midway through the second half, and players and staff facing up to each other in brief scuffle immediately after afterwards.

Muñoz put the Pamplona based side ahead in the twentieth minute after Delporte put him through, and Pablo García almost made it two when his free kick struck the post. But the visitors were level by half time after Carlitos headed home a cross from Daniel Alves. Webó restored the lead after the restart when he got ahead of Alfaro to head a Corrales cross past Esteban, and Aranda missed a chance to square the match again shortly after his side were left with ten men. The numerical advantage eventually paid off for the hosts though, Morales heading a third goal and Moha adding a fourth in the last five minutes of the game.
