Málaga moved out of the relegation zone after a 1-0 win over Levante, their first victory in nine games. It was not a convincing performance by Gregorio Manzano's side though, Ettien causing problems for Calatayud early on and Fernando Sanz clearing off the line from Manchev after the Bulgarian striker had run through from the halfway line to shoot at goal.

The home side's only reply in the first half had been a long shot over the bar from Leko, but just two minutes after the restart the visiting defence allowed Amoroso space to advance on goal, and the Brazilian striker's shot took a deflection off Pinillos to wrong-foot keeper Mora and entered the net.

It was Málaga's first goal in 545 minutes of football, but in the end was just enough to give them the three points and save the head of the manager for the time being at least. Even so they suffered for the last few minutes as Bernd Schuster's side fought for the equaliser, Calatayud having to save from Celestini and substitute Reggi firing a volley over the bar with the goal at his mercy.
