A sensational match at the San Mamés stadium, where Athletic Bilbao produced what must be the comeback of the season to win in the last minute after trailing to neighbours Osasuna by three goals with half an hour left on the clock. Pablo García put the visitors ahead on the quarter hour mark after turning Gurpegui before beating Aranzubia with a shot from outside of the area, and their solid defence kept out any threat from the Bilbao forwards throughout the first half. And the game appeared to be over ten minutes after the restart when Webó got a second with a low header, and then Puñal made it three with a spectacular free kick from over thirty yards out.

But Yeste struck twice in five minutes, picking up a pass from young striker Fernando Llorente to fire an angled shot past Elia, and then bending an unstoppable free kick over the defensive wall into the top corner of the net. Valverde threw on Tiko and Julen Guerrero, and Tiko levelled the scores on the follow up after the frantic defenders had kept out a couple of previous shots. And in the ninetieth minute Guerrero got on the end of Iraola's cross to turn the ball into the net for his first goal in eleven months and a first home win against their rivals since the 1992/3 season. The party went on long into the night.
