Málaga and Mallorca played out a dull 0-0 draw which didn't further the survival prospects of either side. Both managers packed their midfields in the first half, and the two front men signed during the winter transfer window, Fernando Baiano for the locals (who was making his debut) and Okubo for the visitors, were given little service by their colleagues. As a result there were virtually no attempts at goal in the first forty five minutes apart from a couple of free kicks which didn't really trouble either keeper.

Baiano did get a good chance soon after the restart though when put free in front of goal, but he ballooned his shot way off target. And after that it the visitors were on top, Luis García volleying over from close range, Arango rattling the crossbar with a free kick and Campano cutting in but only managing to find the side netting. If anything, the result favours Héctor Cúper's side, who nevertheless stay second to bottom. The locals drop down a place in the table, and are still only a point outside of the relegation zone.
