Real Sociedad made themselves some breathing space with a 1-3 win at Racing Santander, where Nando Yosu returned as caretaker manager after Luas Alcaraz was sacked earlier in the week. Yosu changed the formation back to a four man defence, leaving new signing Argel on the bench and bringing in Pablo Casar, but it proved a disaster in the opening minutes as the Basque side scored three times in the first half hour. Aranburu started things off with a shot from outside of the area after picking up a short free kick from Nihat, and returned the favour two minutes later, setting up his Turkish colleague for him to beat Aouate with a shot on the turn. It was the striker's 50th goal in 100 games for his club, and their fans will be hoping that Real will be able to see off a large bid from CSKA Moscow which could take him away from San Sebastian in the next few days.

Racing finally woke up, and Riesgo did well to keep out an effort from Javi Guerrero. But Kovacevic shot just wide a few minutes later, and Nihat made it three with the easiest of tap-ins after Kovacevic and Xabi Prieto had combined to leave him free in front of goal. It could have been more had a couple of players been able to get on the end of Kovacevic's dangerous cross after the restart, but Yosu made some early changes to his line up and it paid off when Anderson Silva got on the end of a corner by substitute Morán to head past Riesgo. After that the home side pushed forward, with Jonathan having a goal disallowed for a borderline offside, Riesgo saving a tricky effort from Regueiro and Javi Guererro hitting the bar. But the visitors held on for the three points, which takes them five points clear of the relegation zone and leaves the Cantabrians in next to bottom spot.
