Sevilla failed to take advantage of the defeat of their city rivals Betis when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Racing Santander, although the point was enough to take them up to third spot in the table. It as a lively match, with both sides hitting the woodwork in the opening minutes, Aganzo lobbing against the crossbar for the visitors and Casquero replying at the other end. Sevilla went ahead on the quarter hour mark when Baptista got on the end of Adriano's cross to score, but Javi Guerrero, Regueiro and Aganzo all went close for Racing before Moratón headed on a corner for Aganzo to poke home an equaliser.

With the rain falling both sides made early substitutions, and Sevilla restored the lead when Aouate could only block Antoñito's shot, the ball bouncing up for Darío Silva to head into the empty net. But the lead didn't last long as Regueiro got above the defence to head home Morán's corner soon afterwards. And Pablo Casar could have won it for the visitors in the dying minutes when his header was stopped on the line by a defender. It was a valuable point for Nando Yosu's side, who move two points clear of the drop zone as a result.
