Levante recorded only their second win in fifteen games, beating Mallorca 1-2 to leave the Balearic Islanders further down in the relegation zone. The home side were looking for a win against a direct rival for relegation, and with Okubo not in condition to play after a long trip to Japan to sort out visa problems and to consult his doctor about his knee injury, Romeo was given a first start up front. And the Argentine striker had the best chance of the first half after Luis García put him through, but he sent his shot just wide of the far post.

The visitors also had their chances before the interval, Alexis in particular having a shot cleared off the line by Campano and heading wide a few minutes later. But the locals took the lead ten minutes in to the second half when Romeo produced a good run before slipping the ball to Luis García, who fired a shot wide of Mora. Visiting manager Bernd Schuster was fighting for his life, and brought on Manchev to strengthen his attack. And although the Bulgarian striker didn't play a part, within a minute his side were level, Sergio García connecting with Ettien's cross to score his first goal in four months from a wide angle.

Héctor Cúper needed a win as desperately as Schuster, and he brought on Melo and Correa to go for broke. But that left gaps at the back, and with eight minutes remaining Jofre got on the end of Ettien's cross to head the ball back over Moyà into the near top corner of the net. It was a bitter blow for the Balearic Islanders, who were unable to react after that. Levante had won their "six pointer", and moved up four places in the table pending Sunday's games. Schuster was a relieved man.
