Sevilla's bad recent form continued when they were beaten 0-1 at home by fellow UEFA cup participants Zaragoza, and they have now only picked up two points from their last five league games. Both sides had played in Europe midweek, but they still got off to a lively start. David Villa crashed a long shot against the post early on and Esteban saved well from a Galletti header, and Antoñito headed over from a Jesús Navas cross in between.

Milito was to prove the match winner for Víctor Muñoz's team though, the central defender coming forward to head Savio's corner past Esteban a few minutes before half time. Caparrós brought on Darío Silva and Kepa at the break, and Luis García had to make important saves from Baptista and Kepa in the second half. But Galletti could have increased the lead had Esteban not been on his toes, and Aragón based side ran down the clock after that to keep them in with an outside chance of returning to Europe next season.
