Zaragoza and Atlético Madrid cancelled each other out in a 0-0 draw, a result which leaves both a little further away from the European places. Fernando Torres was keen to score on his 21st birthday but with Ferrando lining up with four full backs he had little help, and only managed a shot in each half which Luis García dealt with easily.

Other than that though the few remaining chances fell to a home side who were looking to compensate their fans for their surprise elimination from the UEFA cup at the hands of Austria Vienna midweek. Villa shot wide early on and Savio crashed a shot against the foot of the post, and Leo Franco had to be at his best to save from Galletti and Oscar González before the interval.

The best chance of the night though fell to Milito just after the break, but the central defender somehow turned Oscar's cross over the bar from a couple of yards out. Colsa tested a shaky Luis García with an isolated header, and Savio put a late effort over the bar. But not a lot to write home about, and many fans decided to call it a day well before the final whistle.
